Isamu Noguchi was born in Los Angeles to a Japanese father and American mother.
His designs are drawn heavily from Japanese art and culture with an American modernist twist. His iconic glass coffee table is reminiscent of Japanese calligraphy; its stand almost like Japanese characters supporting a glass top finish.
He often worked in black and white colour schemes or using bamboo and ceramics. His love of raw materials reveal his fascination with the elements and links to Japanese culture.
